Alegria has the pleasure to present ‘Pasion Flamenca’, a show of pure passion and love for this art form that expresses itself through the dancer’s moves interpreted through different ryhthms.  Alegria Dance Company with the participation of students from Alegria Gozo and Alegria Malta will be performing some of its works and taking the audience through a journey of passion and joy.  Alegria have performed several times on the island of Gozo, amongst which a flamenco dance version of ‘Carmen’ which was held at the Citadel.  This, however will be the first time that students from Gozo will be participating. Alegria Gozo has been conducting classes at Aurora Theatre for the past year.

OPEN FLAMENCO DANCE CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS

Participants will be trained with the foundations to Flamenco dance through Alianza Flamenca Syllabus, followed by open choreographic excercises. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in Alegria Performances (not compulsory)

STRETCH CLASSES FOR THE DANCER AND NON DANCER – Wednesdays 10.00am to 11.00am

A one hour class designed to strengthen, tone and create a feel good feeling of ones body through gentle exercise and an understanding of core muscles and their role in every day life. Suitable for any age and ability whether one wants to improve in dance techniques or just improve posture and flexibility. Class is choreographed to relaxing and uplifting music and is taught by fully qualified classical ballet teacher Nicola Henson.

Classes for Adults and Children from 6 years up.   Scholastic year runs in 3 terms

Students are trained in Alianza Flamenca Syllabus with an option to undertake assessments at the end of the scholastic year in June 2012.

Dear Friends and Members of Alegria

The first term is over and I am very pleased with the great work and enthusiasm you have all shown throughout these 3 months. 

I would like to remind you that our Annual Christmas Party will be held on Sunday 18^th December from 7.00pm onwards.  As usual, its bring something with you, and everyone is welcome.  Be ready to party and dance the night away…. (dancing shoes are a must in those hand bags!!!!)

The new term will commence from Monday 9^th January 2012 and will run through until the 31^st March 2012.  Please note that there will be no classes between Monday 16^th and Saturday 21^st January as this will be the week Maria del Mar Moreno and Antonio de la Malena will be here for the first Flamenco Workshop as part of JEREZ PURO.  Since there will be no registration day, students are kindly requested to settle fees when they come for their classes in the new year.

The timetable for the second term will remain the same.  May I also remind you that Nicky Henson is giving Stretch Classes on Mondays at 6.00pm and Wednesdays at 10.00am.  These classes are very beneficial for toning your bodies and especially for Flamenco dance.

The Inauguration of Alegria with JEREZ PURO and the course with Maria del Mar Moreno and Antonio de la Malena will run from 16^th January to Sunday 22^nd January 2012.  Details will be following very soon.

The Festival de Jerez will follow shortly from 24^th February to 10^th March 2012.  Once again a group from Alegria will be attending this festival, including our scholarship winner, Ursula Farrugia.  Most of the courses are now fully booked, although there are still places available.  Besides this, JEREZ PURO (Maria del Moreno’s School) will be conducting a Festival course during the first week that is from 25^th February to 1^st March 2012.  All Alegria students will benefit from a special discount as part of JEREZ PURO MALTA.  Please see me for more information.  For those who are interested to attend performances only, the programme is now out and may be viewed on www.festivaldejerez.es

The students will be attending a Flamenco course with some of the greatest Maestros de Flamenco.  The town of Jerez de la Frontera will be alive a Flamenco buzz for these 2 weeks and there are up to 3 daily shows and various lecture demonstrations available .
